STOPPING THE “CHEETAH” TO “HIPPO” METAMORPHOSIS - ppt download: THE TIPPING POINT OF AFRICA’S DEVELOPMENT: “Cheetahs”? According to Professor George Ayiteh (2009), a Ghanaian economist, hippos symbolize the corrupt leaders and the complacency that allows them to thrive. These 'Hippos' (lazy, slow, ornery leaders and their accomplices) have ruined postcolonial Africa, he says. Why, then, does he remain optimistic? Because of the young, agile 'Cheetah Generation,' a 'new breed of Africans' taking their futures into their own hands. ( What Professor Ayiteh fails to realize is that in terms of leadership, metaphorically speaking, cheetahs can metamorphose into hippos when the cheetahs experience human factor decay (HFD).
